Hunger Stories

Noelle

I am going to share a hunger story.  When I was a freshman in college I was 17 years old.  My mother moved to California from Massachusetts. Being the last child of 3, with a mother whose life did not turn out as she had hoped nor in a manner that she could cope with any longer; I was not invited to CA.  That summer as I rode my bike to take care someone else’s family by day and wait tables by night to make financial ends meet, I became anemic by eating a potato a day (when not at the restaurant), which was about all I could afford (I was saving my money for school).  This is not a sob story because this experience strengthened me.  I successfully graduated from college, on to a Master’s, and work with kids and families who are experiencing life’s difficulties.  I also appreciate the food that I have and quietly express this gratitude before every meal.
