Cornerstone Theater Company returned to Venice this fall with a small, participatory theatrical collaboration with community members. We had been wanting to make some theater with folks there again! In late 2016, we had a number of meetings with our friends from Ghost Town to dream about how to keep going with theater with, for, and by residents.
VENICE STORYTELLERS brought together Venice community members and teams of Cornerstone artists in conversation about the neighborhood. Over two Saturdays they shared stories and perspectives to make some art together that grew from themes of HISTORY, HOME and ART.
WHEN:
Saturday, October 30, 10:00am – 1:00pm and Saturday, November 20, 10:00am – 3:00pm
WHAT:
DAY 1: Participate in full group introductory activities. In smaller groups for folks will share and listen to stories of personal experience in response to a specific theme. Cornerstone playwrights will write 3 short plays inspired by the stories shared.
DAY 2: Everyone reconvenes to read and rehearse the newly written scripts. The day culminates with a staged reading of these new plays to be shared for an audience of family, friends & neighbors.
