Cornerstone Theater Company

Body Politic

Cornerstone Theater, in collaboration with CONTRA-TIEMPO artistic director and award winning choreographer and activist Ana María Álvarez, wants to make a new catalog of embodied practices to be used towards social justice with you!

Come move with us!

We want to explore with you how our bodies rise in the streets, in the clubs, on the halls of Justice together with and in motion towards a more just world. There’s music for social change, songs passed down from generations of activists – we want to imagine and create an embodied practice, dances that keep folks together in movements for change.

Bring your presence and the will to gather, move, and experiment around questions of our bodies and our collective liberation in these creative joy filled gatherings.

Let’s learn together what we can do with our bodies when we’re doing the work for change.

“We have to be engaged in our bodies, we don’t have a choice.

We are being called forth at this moment! What does it look like to be in a relationship locally with the folks already doing incredible work on their own?

How can we collectively engage liberation practices, rooted in the wisdom of our ancestors, freeing our bodies and understand the power that lives in each of our bodies?

What does it look like to gather in space to nourish one another, to re-member and ground in the power of this?

We are starting to build a practice of showing up inside of spaces, centering the care of our bodies and each other; building a framework that can be shared and participated in. We invite you to join in and help us imagine the movement, led by our bodies!”
