Will MacAdams

Playwright, Will MacAdams is a playwright and director who has worked in South Africa, Indonesia, and in communities across the United States. Past projects include: the Black Dirt Cycle, a series of three site-specific plays about farming, immigration, and local soil created with farmers, farm workers and artists in Warwick, NY; Peter Handke’s Kaspar, performed by theater students in Johannesburg at the beginning of the Mandela era (Director); Eye to Eye, an original play about youth-police relations, created with future police officers and young people from New Haven, CT (Co-Playwright, Director); Awaken New Haven, a five-hour, four- neighborhood theatrical event about death and rebirth, produced by Long Wharf Theatre (Co-Playwright, Co-Director); Naomi Wallace’s The Retreating World, produced in Louisville, KY alongside a community dialogue with activists, artists, and scholars about the politics of war and peace (Director); and Cruising the Divide, an interview-inspired play about divides of race and class during the celebration of the Kentucky Derby, performed by members of the Apprentice Company at Actors Theater of Louisville (Playwright). He is a past recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation’s Next Generation Leadership Fellowship, a civil rights award from Louisville’s Carl Braden Memorial Center, and a Bates Fellowship, which brought him to Central Java, Indonesia to train in Javanese Shadow Puppetry.

Will MacAdams es un dramaturgo y director que ha trabajado en Sur Africa, en Indonesia y en comunidades a través de los Estados Unidos. Proyectos previos uncluyen el Ciclo del Polvo Negro, sobre la agricultura, la inmigración y la tierra local, que consiste en tres obras para sitios específicos creadas con agricultores, peones y artistas de Warwick, en el estado de New York; la obra Kaspar de Peter Handke, interpretada por estudiantes de teatro en Johannesburg, al pricipio de la era de Mandela (Director); Ojo a Ojo, una obra original sobre las relaciones entre jóvenes y la policía, creada con futuros policías y con jóvenes de New Haven (Co-Dramaturgo, Director); Despierta New Haven, un evento teatral de cinco horas en cuatro barrios, sobre la muerte y el retorno a la vida, producido por el Teatro Long Wharf (Co-Dramaturgo, Co-Director); El mundo que se aleja, obra escrita por Naomi Wallace, producida en Louisville, incluyendo un diálogo con la comunidad de activistas, artistas y eruditos, sobre la polítca de la guerra y la paz (Director); y Cruzando la Divisón, obra inspirada por entrevistas sobre las divisiones de clase y raza durante la celebración de la anual Carrera de Caballos en Kentucky, interppretada por los miembros de la Compañía de Actores Aprendices del Teatro de Actores de Louisville (Dramaturgo).  En años previos ha recibido una beca de La Futura Generación de Líderes de la Fundación Rockefeller, un premio relacionado con derechos civiles del Centro Memorial de Carl Braden en Louisville, y una beca de la Fundación Bates, que lo llevó a la Java Central en Indonesia, para entrenarse en la tradición de Teatro de Sombras con marionetas.
