Tell us your story:
There is shame in my story when I think of actual hunger and poverty. But I am a compulsive eater. This is very common in our country, Food takes on a mistaken identity of sorts and we use it to try to fill what is actually spiritual hunger. I believe there is great spiritual hunger in our country and it is often misunderstood by the hungerer and goes out (instead of in) to search for something to fulfill it. Of course the object of this misguided search is often drugs, money, power, or food. Also processes like gambling shopping and spending, raging etc can also become a substitute for a desparately needed inner search. So that’s all for now, but don’t forget us in your own journey to find out about food and hunger in our communities. Community gardens have great beauty because they symbolize a melding of the spirituality of the need for community, food, and gardening.
